“Perhaps the World ends here.”

What do you do with your life knowing so much is at stake, so much has already been lost and we are now facing a great “being undone” culturally, systematically and spiritually. If these are some kind of ending of days that we are witnessing, how are we to live through these times without numbing, going crazy or totally oblivious to the troubles we find ourselves in?

What do these times require from us beyond the hero myth? Where do we regain basic skills for being & making humans again in a vacuum of cultural poverty?

Filiz Telek & Berna Köker Poljak will host a conversation with culture activist, worker and author Stephen Jenkinson about culture, grief and death by asking the kind of questions we don’t ask ourselves enough and wondering out loud how “we can’t go on, we’ll go on”.

Stephen Jenkinson, MTS, MSW – Founder of Orphan Wisdom School, & Author

Stephen Jenkinson is a culture activist, worker, and author. Stephen speaks and performs internationally and is the creator and principal instructor of the Orphan Wisdom School. He has master’s degrees from Harvard University (Theology) and the University of Toronto (Social Work). Apprenticed to a master storyteller as a young man, he has worked extensively with dying people and their families, and is a former programme director in a major Canadian hospital, and former assistant professor in a prominent Canadian medical school.

Since co-founding the Nights of Grief and Mystery project with singer/songwriter Gregory Hoskins in 2015, he has toured this musical tent show revival ceremony of a show across the world. Nights of Grief & Mystery(2017), Dark Roads and Rough Gods (2020). He is the author of A Generation’s Worth: Spirit work while the crisis reigns (2021), Come of Age: The Case for Elderhood in a Time of Trouble (2018), award-winning Die Wise: A Manifesto for Sanity and Soul (2015), Homecoming: The Haiku Sessions (2013), How it All Could Be: A workbook for dying people and those who love them (2009), Angel and Executioner: Grief and the Love of Life – (2009) and Money and The Soul’s Desires: A Meditation (2002). He was a contributing author to Palliative Care – Core Skills and Clinical Competencies (2007). 

He is also the subject of the feature length documentary Griefwalker (National Film Board of Canada, 2008) and Lost Nation Road, the shorter documentary on the crafting of the Nights of Grief and Mystery tours (2019).
